! New Population Estimates

This week the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has released revised mid-year population estimates. Improved methods and newly available administrative data have allowed the ONS to revise the mid-year population estimates covering the period mid-2012 to mid-2016. At this stage population estimates have onlybeen updated at local authority level and above. Updated Ward and LSOA data will be available later in the year and updated accordingly on info4sthelens.

96% of local authorities in England have seen revisions to their population of less than 1%. The revisions have seen St. Helens population increase by 25 to a total of 178,480.

The ONS have produced a Population Estimates Revision Tool to allow local authority population changes to be explored in detail.

The next population update the mid-2017 population estimates will be released on the 21st of June 2018.

Updated sub-national population projections (inc local authorities) will be released in May/June 2018.
